Call for Papers FQPIS '07

1st International Workshop on
Flexible Query Processing in Information Systems - FQPIS 2007

in conjunction with DEXA 2007

Regensburg, Germany

3-7 September 2007

Advances in the Internet technologies and the continued growth of the Web result in a rapidly increasing demand for data and information management. Among many relevant topics, effectively and efficiently querying huge, distributed, and heterogeneous databases is an eye-catching topic due to its fundamentally important applications. Even then, flexible query processing in such systems remains non-trivial because the inherent complexity of the systems, the limited capacity of computers and infrastructure, as well as human’s ambitions. Therefore, the flexible query processing problem in information systems poses many challenging issues, such as how to quickly find out user information needs in large distributed databases, how to ensure secure query processing in such flexible systems, or how to index data to gain good performance during query processing, etc.

The aim of this workshop is to discuss and exchange the ideas related to flexible query processing in information systems. We invite papers from researchers and practitioners working in flexible query answering systems and related areas to submit their original papers to this workshop. The main topics, but not limited to, include:

* Similarity Search in Web and XML Databases
* Similarity Search in Biological Databases
* Top-k and Ranking Queries in Distributed Databases
* Innovative Index Structures
* Flexible Query Processing in Multimedia Databases
* Semantic-based Query Processing and Optimization
* Cost Models for Flexible Query Processing Systems
* Security Issues in Flexible Query Processing Systems
* Advanced Applications of Flexible Query Processing

Important Dates

Submission of papers: 30 March 2007 ===> extended to 10 April 2007
Notification of acceptance: 30 April 2007
Camera-ready copies: 20 May 2007

Submission Details

Authors are invited to submit research contributions or practical experience reports in English. Papers should be single-spaced, no longer than 4000 words or 5 pages, and should follow IEEE instructions: http://computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Authors are required to submit papers via email to
